Why accessible?

Accessibility

A few years ago some legistlation was passed stating certain sectors (i.e. education) had to make their websites accessible to everyone including people with disabilities.

Basically this boils down to writing good clean code that meets web standards and following guidelines that result in a website that reach levels of accessibility.

So whats in it for you? Well, an accessible site has many advantages, other than a warm feeling inside.

An accessible site has a high level of usability to all users and browsers, and enables search engines, such as Google, to index your pages. In turn this increases the potential number of visitors to your website through search results.

Accessible pages are designed to work with a wide range of web browsers on Windows and Mac computers, ensuring each user sees a similar design to the one you see yourself on your computer thus a greater degree of control.

Pages are written in XHMTL with a reference to a style sheet (CSS) for visual formatting. This separation of style from content resulting in smaller file sizes, quicker downloads and makes pages easier to maintain.
